"The ageless joy of learning in a remarkable atmosphere"

There is more than one road a student can take to a college education. While the traditional route is to make college the next step after high school, for some it is not the most realistic path. Many people, for as many reasons, wait until they are adults to pursue their education. At that point in the journey, their perspective may be different but the desire for a quality education that offers lifelong advantages has not changed.

  • Samford's Metro College was developed to create a rewarding balance between the adult viewpoint and the ageless joy of learning. The pivotal balance is the Samford philosophy that says a worthwhile education is more than the facts and figures one knows. Rather, it is the critical and creative way you think, the articulate way you write and speak, and the clarity of the decision making guided by Christian principles. Metro College puts that classic Samford University education within your reach buy putting it within the adult realities of your life.

Adult evening students receive the same advantages as "traditional" Samford students. Many classes are taught by the same professors in the same classroom facilities. The primary difference is the schedule of classes. And because evening students commute, do not receive meal plans, and generally do not participate in the full range of activities designed for traditional day students, the tuition is substantially below the day rates.

    Peaceful - Comfortable - Secure

In accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Samford does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, disability, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, employment policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs. This office will process your request through the Admission Office.

AUDITING: Non-degree seeking credit students wishing to register for courses but not desiring academic credit may audit the course. The cost to audit (non-degree seeking except applied music and art) a class is approximately one-half of the regular day fee per semester hour. No grade is issued for a course taken as an audit (non-degree) student. Degree-seeking students may also audit a class but will be required to pay the full fee for the course. Students who select the "audit" option should be admitted under the special status, non-degree seeking classification.

AUTOMOBILE REGISTRATION: All automobiles new to the Samford campus must be registered at the beginning of each fall semester. Information regarding automobile registration, parking regulations and other related policies is available through the Campus Safety Office, Ralph W. Beeson University Center, 2nd floor (phone: 205 870-2020).

CHANGE OF SCHEDULE: Class schedules may be changed through the "Drop/Add" process. See Calendar for deadline dates. If your class schedule is altered during the schedule change period, additional charges may result. Classes will be dropped at the end of each day during the schedule change period if your financial account is not "paid in full." It is your responsibility to make certain your account is "paid in full."

CHECK CASHING: Checks up to $50 may be cashed at the University Bookstore in Ralph W. Beeson University Center with a current Samford I.D.

Financial aid awards are based, in part, on a student's full or part-time status. To maintain the maximum level of financial aid, undergraduate students should be careful to schedule 12 or more credit hours each semester. Graduate students are considered full time if they enroll for 9 credit hours each semester. Most financial aid awards require a reduction if less than full time status is maintained. In some cases, a part-time student is ineligible for financial aid. It is the student's responsibility to complete the financial aid application process on a timely basis.

FOOD SERVICE: Samford Dining Services and a full service cafeteria are located on the 2nd floor of the University Center; a food court is located on the 1st floor of Ralph W. Beeson University Center.

TUITION, Fees and Room for First-time, First-term Students
In case of withdrawal during the first term of enrollment for persons attending Samford University for the first time, a pro-rata refund of tuition, fees, and room charges shall be calculated as of the Friday following withdrawal. In case of withdrawal within the first week of the term, the student may receive a refund of 100 percent of tuition, fees and room charges. The first week of the term ends on the Friday following the schedule change period. After the end of the first week, such calculation, shall be based on the ratio of the number of weeks that remain following the first Friday after the withdrawal date to the total number of weeks comprising the period of enrollment for which the student has been charged, rounded downward to the nearest ten-percent of that period, up to and ending with the students ninth week of attendance, after which the student shall not be entitled to a refund.

WITHDRAWAL: The University is forced to contract for a substantial amount of goods and services in advance. Most of these expenses are fixed and are not subject to change on short notice. Under certain circumstances, refunds are available to students who officially withdraw from the University. A student desiring to withdraw from the University at any time must secure an official withdrawal form from the Student Records Office. This policy applies to all terms including semesters, summer terms, and nine-week sessions. January Term policy is on a daily basis. Withdrawal may require re-payment to some financial aid programs. Please call or stop in the Student Records Office, Samford Hall, if you need to withdraw completely from the University.
