   Nathaniel4 MERRILL (Abel3, Abel2) was born 1 Mar. 1712/13, in Newbury, Mass., and died in 1796. He graduated at Harvard College in 1732. He was ordained and settled as pastor of the second church (Congregational) in Nottingham, Mass., in 1737. By a change in the Provincial boundary in 1741 the town came into New Hampshire, and from 1746 until 1830 it was known as Nottingham West. In 1830 the name was changed to Hudson. Mr. Merrill had a large and devoted following in the church through a pastorate of fifty-nine years. He married, 11 July, 1738, Elizabeth Sargent, daughter of Dr. Nathaniel and Dorothy (Bradstreet) Sargent of Portsmouth, N.H. She died in April, 1795, aged 80. Children:

       a Baptist clergyman; he was b. in Dec. 1748,
   son of John and Sarah Elliot of Bradford,
   Mass., and Nottingham West;
