Jacob3 MERRILL (John2) was born 27 Mar. 1686, in Hartford, Conn., where he lived until 1719, when he removed to West Hartford. He died in 1725. He married, 10 May, 1710, Abigail Webster, daughter of John and Sarah (Mygatt) Webster. Abigail Webster's brother Daniel was grandfather of Noah Webster, the lexicographer. Her great-grandfather, John Webster, was Governor of Connecticut in 1656. (*)

* Whitmore ("American Genealogist") is clearly in error in saying that Governor John Webster was grandfather of Abigail and Daniel. See "Webster Genealogy," by Noah Webster, 1836.
