   Daniel3 MERRILL (John2) was born 15 June, 1673, in Hartford, Conn., and died in 1750. He lived in West Hartford, and was a deacon of the Second Church in Hartford. By the standard of those days he was very wealthy. leaving property valued at $50,000. To his son Jonathan he gave by will, besides other property, his "negro girl Phebe," and to Israel his negro Peter. He married (1) 18 Jan. 1697/8, Susanna Pratt, daughter of John and Hepzibah (Wyatt) Pratt, who was born 2 Oct. 1680; and (2) 17 Feb. 1736/7, Mindwell King of Windsor, Conn., who survived him. Children, born in Hartford:

* The will of Daniel3 Merrill mentions a grandson, Daniel Easton, the child of a deceased daughter, indicating the married name of either Ruth4 or Mary.4

** Thomas Seymour, husband of Hepzibah4 Merrill, was a lawyer of prominence in Hartford. He graduated at Yale College in 1724. Their son Thomas Seymour graduated at Yale in 1755; was King's Attorney for Hartford County from his father's death until the Revolution; was lieutenant-colonel of militia; represented Hartford in the General Assembly eighteen years, and was a member of the House of Assistants ten years; was elected first Mayor of Hartford in 1784, and served until 1812; chief judge of the Hartford County court from 1798 to 1803. For three years the younger Thomas was the oldest living graduate of Yale College, and three of his sons graduated at the same institution. His grandson Thomas H. Seymour was Governor of Connecticut 1850-53, and United States Minister to Russia 1853-57. Gen. Truman Seymour, U.S.A., (West Point 1846) was another grandson.

   Daniel3 Merrill made his will 26 Dec. 1745. It was proved 7 August. 1750. The inventory amounted to £10,698. 7s.
