Hi, I'm a descendant of Almyra Merrill Lamb, who married Abel Lamb. Almyra's Lineage, starting with her father is Daniel Merrill, then her grandfather Daniel Merrill, then her great grandfather, Daniel Merrill, then her gg, Johnathan Merrill, Her ggg, Daniel Merrill, then her gggg,John Merrill, then her ggggg, Nathaniel Merrill and Susanna Wolterton. I have found her buriel plot in the Salt Lake City cemetery, and she has no headstone. Do you ever take projects on the internet to raise money for a headstone from descendants. I researched the cost and for a regular flat 12 X 24 it would cost $ 635.00 installed. Thanks Phil Stradling
Answer: Phillip:
The lineage you give for Almyra Merrill Lamb interests us very much. We agree that Jonathan (4) [ Daniel (3), John (2), immigrant Nathaniel (1)] and Mary Perry had a Daniel, b. 1730 feb 10. But we have no information on this Daniel, no spouse, no children, nor any of his descendants. We would greatly appreciate it if you could supply information on Daniel (5)'s descendants forward. [dates, spouses, locations, children].
We are Howard and Jean Merrill. For twenty five years we have been trying to database the Merrill/Merrell family nationwide from the original immigrants down to the present day for all immigrant lines. So far we have info on over 60,000 Merrill males plus their wives and daughters in our database, but we estimate there have been well over a100,000 so we have a long way to go, and need and appreciate all the help we can get, particularly with the later generations. We use this database strictly to try and help folks trace their Merrill roots. Be assured that no info on living individuals will become internet accessible from us.
While our database is not internet searchable, we will be glad to search it for anybody and share what we find at no cost. All we ask is that folks share their Merrill data with us so that we can expand our database and do a better job of helping solve Merrill lineage problems.
We are strictly volunteer, and not in the business of trying to raise money for any purpose, and certainly not to buy headstones. We would think that it should be the responsibility of Almyra's descendants to provide the funds for such a project. Since she is buried in Salt lake City [dates?], we assume she was probably Mormon. Perhaps the Mormon church has a fund for such a project.

Answer: Jim:
We are not family historians, but are Merrill family genealogists. For twenty five years we have been collecting Merrill surname information nationwide. In our file of the descendants of the original Merrill immigrant, Nathaniel of Newbury MA, we have over 56,000 individuals, not including the Merrill daughter's children. We use this database strictly to try to help folks trace their Merrill roots.
We can identify most, but not all, of the folks you listed. It looks like your message was truncated and you were about to list some more. The ones we can identify all are associated with the family of James Gilman (7) Merrill who came to Jacksonville about 1868 and founded what became Merrill-Stevens Shipbuilding Corporation. James Gilman (7)'s lineage is James (6), Levi (5), James (4), Thomas (3), Abel (2), immigrant Nathaniel (1). Almost all of the ones we can't identify are young children who were b. and d. between the census listings [every ten years, 1790-1930 available], one of our primary sources. We don't have anecdotal info to write a biographical sketch. Perhaps Merrill-Stevens Shipbuilding would have something on their founder and his sons and grandsons that were active in the business. There even may be living members associated with the company that could help with sketches.
We will attach a genealogy report covering James Gilman and his known children and grandchildren, which are those listed in the Old City Cemetery. Note that the generation numbers given in the report are two higher than what we have given. It includes two generations in Wherstead, Suffolk, England. Immigrant Nathaniel is Nathaniel (3) in that listing. Hope that is not too confusing.
The ones we can't identify are
Albert James, 1894
Balfe, 1901, or father John, but he obviously belongs somewhere in the family. Daughter Joanna Gilman (8) Merrill m. a John Balfe in 1898. Perhaps this was a Balfe child who d. at birth, son of John Balfe and Joanna Merrill.
Eugene J, 1899-1911
Tom G, no dates
James Gilman and his 2nd wife, Sarah Eliza (Cross) Merrill are listed as well as her father William Cross. Their children that are listed are William Gilman [and his wife Nellie Walter, and their son William Walter, 1881], Alexander Robertson, Charles Betts, Nellie Huling, Charles, and George RT. Eldest of their children, James Eugene, is buried in Evergreen cemetery.
We hope this helps, if you have questions, we'll try to answer.
