Question: arline fowler wrote:

Could you tell me the parents of Frank Dow Merrill,of the famed Merrills Marauders, of World War11. He was born in Hopkinton,Mass. 1903 and died in Florida in 1955, and his lineage to Nathaniel Merrill(1638-39)?

Answer: Arline:

Frank Dow (10) Merrill's parents were Charles W (9) and Katherine Donavan.  His lineage is Charles W (9), Frederick M (8),  Joseph (7,6), Jacob (5), Isaac (4), Abraham (3,2), immigrant Nathaniel (1).  More details are available. How are you related to Frank Dow?

We are trying to database the Merrill surname nationwide from the original immigrants right down to the present day for all the immigrant lines.  So far we have over 60,000 Merrill males, plus their wives and daughters in our database, but we estimate that there are well over 100,000, so we have a long way to go, and we need and appreciate all the help we can get, particularly with the later generations. We use this database strictly to try and help folks trace their Merrill roots. Be assurred that our database is not internet searchable and we do not give out information on living individuals. We would be interested in any info you have on Merrill surname descendants of Frank Dow down to the present day.

Question: Beverly Merrill wrote:

I had a telephone call from someone I graduated from high school with lo those many, many years ago. A mutual friend had told her I had some research on Merrills, but, of course, I didn't have the information she was looking for. Her inquiry pertains to a Charles H. Merrill who married a Statira W. Merrill and lived in the Farmington Falls/New Sharon area. On page 374 of Virginia's Volume 2 I find "Charles Henry (adopted) b. 16 Feb. 1837, d. 26 Dec 1829 ae 32 (obviously incorrect - perhaps he d ca 1869), m. Statira W. Merrill." This, however, does not seem to jibe with what dates she has for their children who are: Joseph H. Rev. George A. - graduated from Bowdoin in 1894 and Andover Theological in 1897. Helen E. b. March 21, 1880. She married Carl Luther Curtis. Here I can't read my notes, but I think she married in Farmington Falls in 1900 and I think they lived in Pownal. Effie M. who married ___________ Marsh. Also Farmington or Farmington Falls. Do you have any information pertaining to a Charles H. Merrill who married a Statira W. Merrill? Statira is such a different name one would think it might stand out. Thanks for any help you can give me. Beverly Merrill

Answer: Beverly:

Your Friend's Charles Henry is not the one you referred to  in Virginia's book. He is down a different line and two generations later. The correct one is Charles Henry (8), 1829 Feb 16 Pownal -1908 Apr 28 in New Sharon. His lineage is Nathaniel (7), Josiah (6), Jacob (5), John (4), Nathan (3), Abel (2), Nathaniel (1).  He m. his 1st cousin, Statira W (8) Merrill, 1837 Apr 23- 1914 Mar 16, [Jacob (7), Josiah (6), etc].   If you give our address to your friend, we would be glad to give her the details of this lineage in exchange for any information she has on the Merrill surname descendants of Charles H down to the present.

Question: Dee Dempster wrote:

My family is a descendent of Nathaniel Merrill, through the youngest son Abel. My research shows the lineage as follows: Nathaniel, Abel, Nathan, Nathan, Richard, Nathan, Leonard and Cynthia. My family bible starts with Nathan Merril/Sarah Lowell Merrill from Rumney and Dorchester NH. Cynthia Merril was my great, great, great grandmother and travelled from New Hampshire to Minnesota via Oregon. I was born in MN and moved to NH, unknowingly near Cynthia's birth home. Am I correct in the male lineage? Thanks, Dee Dempster

Answer: Dee:

We can confirm your line down through Nathan (6) and Sarah Rowell (5) Merrill.  However, Our records indicate that they had 9 children: Mary,1786; Nathan,1788; Sarah,1790; Priscilla,1793; Henry, 1795; Lydia, 1798; Phebe, 1801; Jeremiah, 1803; George Lowell, 1805, but no Leonard. We would be very interested in the details from your Family bible showing Leonard as a child of  Nathan and Sarah Rowell Merrill and the details about Leonard and his family. We are always looking for new sources of information.

In the 1850 census we do not find a Leonard or a Cynthia in Rumney. Neither do we find a Leonard as head of hosehold in Rumney in 1840 or 1830.When was Cynthia b. and when and whom did she m. before moving to OR and MN?  We thought you might have left out a generation, but none of Nathan (6) and Sarah' sons, listed above, had a son Leonard either.

Sarah Rowell (5) Merrill's lineage is Henry (5), John (3), Abraham (2), Nathaniel (1).
