Eczema |
| |
Attrbuted
to fungal
spores produced by the fungus Pithomyces chartarum
growing
on pasture produce a toxin which when ingested
by alpacas
damages the liver and bile ducts. Alpaca are
one of the most sensitive animal species
to Facial Eczema, more sensitive than sheep,
cattle, deer
and goats."

| West
Nile Virus |
| |
Carried
by the common mosquito, this virus has already
claimed at least six to nine alpacas and llamas(1).
What can you do to help prevent your animals
from
being
infected?
|
| |
| Worms |
| |
Practically
all mammals are capable of being infected by
parasitic worms of one type or another. Some
of these may be the deadly meningeal worm, tapeworm,
whipworms, flukes to mention a few. This area
will in the future feature articles on types
of worms which can afflect the alpaca and the
cure for that infection. More later.
